Eleven Ivy Tech Corporate College students became Certified Production Technicians on October 3. The students completed a 140-hour course and successfully completed a national certification exam established by the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council. The students also participated in the Advancing Manufacturing Initiative that connects certified production technicians with area employers.

Certified Production Technician is the only certification for front-line manufacturing workers. Certification training builds knowledge and skills in four critical manufacturing areas: safety, quality practices and measurement, manufacturing processes and production, and maintenance awareness. Guided by instructors with years of manufacturing experience, participants learn through self-paced e-Learning, discussions, plant tours and guest speakers.
The Advancing Manufacturing Initiative connects qualified job candidates to area manufacturers who need applicants trained in advanced manufacturing. Candidates who meet attendance and other employability requirements are invited to participate in a post-graduation interview fair with partner firms. The employers participating in the interview fair have the first opportunity to meet eager candidates who have demonstrated manufacturing and exemplary life management skills.
The initiative is a partnership between Ivy Tech Corporate College, WorkOne, Greater Lafayette Commerce, the City of Lafayette, area manufacturers, and other economic development organizations for the purpose of developing a stronger workforce in the Greater Lafayette area.
